Intel in Washington

Annual corporate philanthropic contributions topped $2 million

Washington

Investment and Innovation

Intel has been investing in the state of Washington since 1996. The company’s employment in the state totals approximately 1,000 people at two facilities:  the DuPont Development Center and RidgePointe, a leased office building in Bellevue.

Intel’s primary focus in DuPont is engineering research and product development, with an emphasis on powerful and efficient technology platforms for business.

Engineers in DuPont also help design chipsets for servers, power and thermal solutions, and diagnostic tools used in testing components and computer systems prior to commercial release.

At RidgePointe, Intel software engineers work with industry partners to enable optimum performance of new technology platforms.

Intel also has a close relationship with the University of Washington. The College of Engineering serves as the hub for the Intel Science and Technology Center, a collaboration with university researchers to accelerate the development of next-generation technologies that can learn, adapt and interact to provide consumers with a personalized experience.

Intel in the Community

The Puget Sound Business Journal ranks Intel among the top corporate philanthropists in Washington. The company’s annual contributions in the state top $2 million, including support of computer science, engineering research, and other programs at the University of Washington.

Intel also supports K–12 education in Washington—primarily in Pierce and Thurston counties—through funding for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) programs, with a particular focus on female and minority students. The company’s 2011 investment in K-12 education was more than $200,000.

The Intel Foundation also distributed more than $180,000 to schools and community organizations in Washington through the Intel Involved Matching Grant Program. The donations are made when Intel employees and retirees volunteer more than 20 hours in a year.

Intel employees and retirees also support the community through an annual giving campaign. Including a matching grant from the Intel Foundation, the 2011 campaign in Washington generated contributions through United Way of more than $435,000.
