Intel® I/O Expansion Modules are custom form factor I/O expansion cards that connect directly to the motherboard through a PCI Express* interface. They give you the flexibility to create a unique server configuration to meet your customers' needs. Designed and fully tested to work with Intel® Server Boards and Intel® Server Systems, I/O expansion modules represent a cost effective way to expand I/O capabilities without using valuable, standard PCI Express slots. This allows for more system flexibility and expansion capabilities in dense 1U or 2U rack systems.

The Intel® Storage Controller virtualizes the integrated shared storage through a SAN fabric that connects the compute modules to the 14 2.5-inch SAS drives. The Intel® Modular Server system includes a storage controller with a redundant option available.

The Intel® Storage Controller offers expansion to connect an external SAS RAID array through a mini x4 external SAS port to allow sharing of external storage with all server compute modules. Intuitive SAN storage management is also included in the Intel® Management Module.

Available in 2-port 1GbE, 4-port 1GbE, and 2 port 10GbE. Ethernet is one of the most widely used interconnects in datacenters as well as small and medium business environments. With connectivity speed up to 10GbE, an I/O module can cover various usage models, from scaling up number of ports in the system to adding high speed 10GbE connectivity.	With Quad Data Rate (QDR) speeds, InfiniBand* modules match the high-performance of Intel® Xeon® 5600 processor servers with high bandwidth and low latency I/O to improve storage performance. InfiniBand technology is based upon a channel-based, switched fabric, point-to-point architecture, mostly used as an interconnect in HPC clusters.	RAID modules add hardware-raid capabilities similar to a standard RAID adapter card to Intel Server Boards and Intel Server Systems without consuming valuable PCI Express slots. Add RAID 0, 1, 10, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60 capabilities with these cost effective modules. Optional battery backup units are supported for mission critical environments.	Securely gain access and control servers on the network-any place, any time. Remote access includes remote management capability, including power control, KVM, and media redirection, with a dedicated management network interface card (NIC).
