What is the data reordering issue?

The data reordering issue causes intermittent Wi-Fi connection loss and application hangs on Windows 8* platforms.

What is the root cause?

Firmware change corrects a packet reordering problem primarily occurring when there are other connected devices to the same BSS.

How do I resolve the issue?

Check the current version available for your adapter and operating system.

Find the link to the current Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software version.

What is the scope?

Under each operating system is a list of adapters supported by the software fix.

Windows 8*

  • The following Intel® Wireless Adapters with version 16.0.x software:
    • Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260
    • Intel® Dual Band Wireless-N 7260
    • Intel® Wireless-N 7260
    • Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160
  • The following wireless adapters with 15.x software:
    • Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 2230
    • Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6235
    • Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6205
    • Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6205 for Desktop
    • Intel® Centrino® Ultimate-N 6300
    • Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250
    • Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 2200
    • Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 2200 for Desktop
    • Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N + WiMAX 6150
  • The following wireless adapters may be affected. The current software update does not support them. A future update includes the data reordering fix:
    • Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 105
    • Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 135

Windows 7*

  • Windows 7* software is only applicable to the wireless adapters listed below.
  • The following Intel® Wireless Adapters with version 16.1.0 software:
    • Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260
    • Intel® Dual Band Wireless-N 7260
    • Intel® Wireless-N 7260
    • Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160

What's the impact?

  • Disruption of application layer data transfer resulting in application hangs or loss of connection.
  • Issue is more evident in scenarios of connect/reconnect, resume from suspend, and roaming.
  • Failure to obtain IP address via DHCP.
