BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
Summary

SR-IOV Virtual Function (VF) is still up when Physical Function (PF) is down.

Description

Intel® Ethernet Network Adapter X710 SR-IOV Virtual Function (VF) still working when PF is down

Resolution

This is a normal behavior. Refer to the PCI-SIG SR-IOV Primer for additional details on how it works.

After the SR-IOV is enabled, the VF will have its own dedicated resources within the IO device and can still send packets even if the associated PF function is disabled.
