Description

Yes. The following three issues with the Early Power Estimator (EPE) version 9.0 SP1 B13 cause incorrect power estimation for the HardCopy® IV GX ASICs:

  1. Duplicate transceiver (XCVR) power counting
  2. Incorrect static power estimation
  3. Incorrect total power estimation

Issue # 1: Duplicate transceiver (XCVR) power counting

With the EPE version 9.0 SP1 B13, two different transceiver (XCVR) power numbers are shown and included for the HardCopy IV GX power estimation. The second XCVR power reported is the correct one for the HardCopy IV GX device; and it should match the Stratix IV GX XCVR power estimation. Refer to Figure 1.

Issue # 2:  Incorrect static power estimation

In the EPE version 9.0S P1 B13 HardCopy Estimation report, the HardCopy IV GX static power is incorrect because it includes the second XCVR power and the PCS/HIP power consumptions. To obtain the correct static power estimation for HardCopy IV GX ASICs, subtract the second XCVR power and the PCS/HIP power from the reported total static power. Refer to Figure 2.

Issue # 3: Incorrect total power estimation

The total power reported in the EPE version 9.0S P1 B13 HardCopy Estimation report is incorrectly too high because it includes one extra XCVR power. As described in issue #1, the first XCVR power is incorrect and should be omitted. Subtract the first XCVR power from the incorrect total power to get the real total power. Refer to Figure 3.
