Why do some Intel® Arria® 10 devices have reported higher VCC static current consumption in Early Power Estimator and Power Analyzer when VCC is set to 0.90 V compared to 0.95 V?

Affected device(s): 10AX016, 10AS016, 10AX022, 10AS022, 10AX027, 10AS027, 10AX032, 10AS032, 10AX048, 10AS048.

In above-mentioned Intel® Arria® 10 devices, when VCC is 0.90 V, the leakage current can be higher than when VCC is 0.95 V. Due to the higher leakage current, Early Power Estimator (EPE) and Power Analyzer will report higher VCC static current consumption when Vcc is 0.90 V compared to 0.95 V. Although VCC static current can be higher when VCC is 0.90 V compared to 0.95 V, the VCC dynamic current will be lower when VCC is 0.90 V. It is highly recommended to always refer to the total current consumption as per reported in the Early Power Estimator or Power Analyzer for board design.

Resolution

No action is required as long as you design your board for Intel® Arria® 10 FPGAs within the current values and recommended margins of the Early Power Estimator or Power Analyzer.
