Why can I not select a VCCINT Voltage of 1.2V when selecting Industrial temperature grade for Cyclone IV devices, in the Cyclone III, Cyclone IV and Cyclone V PowerPlay Early Power Estimator (EPE) tool?

Environment

  • Quartus® II Subscription Edition
  • BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
    Description

The Cyclone® III, Cyclone IV and Cyclone V PowerPlay Early Power Estimator (EPE) does not allow the user to pick Industrial Temperature Grade and VCCINT of 1.2V for Cyclone IV E FPGAs, even though this is a valid combination of VCCINT voltage and Temperature Grade settings.

    Resolution

To calculate power consumption over Industrial temperature range and VCCINT=1.2V, select Extended in the Temperature Range drop down menu.  This will allow estimation of power consumption over the full operating junction temperature range for industrial temperature grade Cyclone IV E FPGAs.

Ensure that the junction temperature is within the recommended operating condition stated in the Cyclone IV Device Datasheet (PDF) as the EPE will not produce an error if this exceeds the max operating temperature for industrial grade parts when the Temperature Grade menu is set to Extended.
